An Avurudu Festival, specially organized exclusively for the staff of the Municipal Solid Waste Management Department who are engaged in the exceptional duty of keeping Kandy City clean and pristine, was held on 2026.04.26 at the Wevelpitiya Municipal Grounds.
Organized with the full patronage of Most Venerable Narampanawe Ananda Nayaka Thero, Anunayake of the Asgiri Chapter of the Siam Sect and Chief Prelate of the Asgiri Pirivena, nearly one thousand members of the solid waste junior staff and their family members participated in this program.
This event, attended by Hon. Mayor of Kandy Chandrasiri Wijayanayake, Deputy Mayor Ruwan Galapitiya, and Opposition Leader Lalantha Sanjeewa Peiris along with a group of Municipal Councilors, was organized by the staff of the Solid Waste Department under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner of Kandy, Mrs. Indika Kumari Abeysinghe, and led by the Head of the Solid Waste Department, Municipal Mechanical Engineer Mr. Namal Dammika Dissanayake.
