On 2026.06.02, work commenced to renovate the Hunkirige Canal, and to construct side walls and concrete the canal bed in Wattapuluwa Grama Niladhari Division, within the Kadawatha Sathara and Gangawata Korale Divisional Secretariat Divisions of Kandy District. This marked the launch of the "Prajashakthi - A Thousand Works in a Thousand Villages" National Program in the Kandy District.
This program was held under the patronage of Kandy District Parliamentarian Mr. Thanura Dissanayake. Deputy Mayor of Kandy Mr. Ruwan Galapitiya, Chairman of Gangawata Korale Pradeshiya Sabha Dr. Sisira Senadeera, Municipal Councilors, Kandy District Secretary Mr. Indika Udawatta, and Gangawata Korale Divisional Secretary Mr. Amila Navarathna, along with other state officials, participated in the event.
