With the aim of building a good society through a disciplined generation of children, financial aid for the maintenance and development of Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic and Catholic Dhamma schools operating within the Kandy Municipal Council limits was presented under the patronage of Kandy Mayor Mr. Chandrasiri Wijayanayake at the City Hall on 25th June 2026.
Accordingly, a sum of Rs. 840,000/- was distributed at the rate of Rs. 15,000/- per Dhamma school to 42 Buddhist Dhamma schools, 02 Hindu Dhamma schools, 06 Islamic Dhamma schools and 06 Catholic Dhamma schools.
Leader of the Opposition of the Kandy Municipal Council Mr. Lalantha Sanjeewa Peiris, Chairperson of the Public Aid and Welfare Committee Municipal Councilor Mrs. Fathuma Mastoora, along with a group of Municipal Councilors participated in this event. It was held under the guidance of Kandy Municipal Commissioner Mrs. Indika Kumari Abeysinghe, and a group of senior officials of the Kandy Municipal Council were also present.
This program was organized by Public Aid and Welfare Officer Mrs. Shammi Wijerathna along with the staff of that department.
