"City of Renaissance"
In conjunction with the "2026 Provincial Local Government Week" program implemented island-wide by the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government, the inauguration of the "2026 Provincial Local Government Week" program of the Kandy Municipal Council was held at the Urban Indoor Sports Complex under the patronage of the Hon. Mayor of Kandy, Mr. Chandrasiri Wijayanayake.
Also present were Deputy Mayor of Kandy Municipal Council Mr. Ruwan Galapitiya, Leader of the Opposition Mr. Lalantha Sanjeewa Peiris, along with a group of Municipal Council members, Municipal Commissioner Mrs. Indika Kumari Abeysinghe and a group of municipal staff, as well as a group of officials from the Gangawata Korale Divisional Secretariat Office.
In conjunction with the first day of the 2026 Provincial Local Government Week, Mobile Services and Revenue Promotion Day, "Mobile Service" programs were held at the Urban Indoor Sports Complex, Asgiriya Community Hall, Katugastota Community Hall and Lewella Grama Niladhari Office.
The objective of this program was to enable the urban public to directly discuss their village, city or private premises issues, service needs, or suggestions and ideas with the relevant officials and political authorities and obtain solutions. Accordingly, direct attention was focused on issues related to Water, Rates, Land, Planning, Public Utilities and Health sectors.
