Mayor's Challenge Cup Inter-School Under-19 Basketball Tournament

The first-ever Mayor's Challenge Cup Inter-School Under-19 Basketball Tournament, organized by the Sports Department of the Kandy Municipal Council, was held on 14th and 15th March 2026 at the Municipal Indoor Stadium. Under the patronage of the Honorable Mayor of Kandy, Mr. Chandrasiri Wijeyanayake, The Honorable Deputy Mayor Ruwan Galapitiya, Sports Standing Committee Chairperson Ms. Jeewani Vilathgamuwa and Municipal Councillor Ms. Samanthi Perera, The tournament, which began with the participation of a group of people, included the Kandy Trinity, Kingswood, Gateway, Hillwood, Mahamaya, Teams representing St. Anthony's Boys' and Girls' Schools participated. The boys' division championship was won by the Trinity College, Kandy team, while the junior championship was won by the Kingswood College team. The championship in the girls' division was won by the Mahamaya School team, Kandy, while the runner-up was won by the St. Anthony's Girls' School team, Kandy. This tournament, which was initiated on a proposal by Municipal Councillor Jeevani Vilathgamuwa, was organized by the Municipal Sports Department staff along with Assistant Municipal Commissioner Harshika Weerarathne on the advice of Municipal Commissioner Indika Kumari Abeysinghe.
